Inspired by the aesthetics of gym-focused web shows and the harsh sounds of deconstructed club music, SKINNY is a contemporary ballet about body culture, speed, and the search for tenderness. The work quotes fragments from blockbusters, music videos, and YouTube clips and weaves them into the ballet vocabulary. Gender stereotypes of classical ballet standards dissolve in the uniformity of nude-looking dancers, the exaggerated tempo of group sequences and fast-paced solos.
