Louis Stiens is a German choreographer, director, and performer whose work engages with tradition, form, and cultural context. He studied dance at the Heinz-Bosl-Foundation in Munich and at the John Cranko School in Stuttgart before becoming a demi-soloist with the Stuttgart Ballet from 2011–2022.

His innovative, dramaturgically refined works reinterpret classical ballet, text and music through experimentation and irony. Drawing on his experience as a dancer, choreographer, and director, they bridge institutional frameworks and independent contexts, addressing themes of identity, autonomy, and beauty.

He first gained recognition with his solo Mäuse (2010) for the Stuttgart Noverre Society, which won first prize at the BEO Competition. Since then, he has created works for leading institutions including the Stuttgart Ballet and Ballett Zürich, as well as independent projects such as Solid Transitions, the Stuttgart Winter Film Festival, and collaborations with the artist Peaches. In 2024 and 2025, he premiered major works including Fieber for Ballet Graz, Strip for the Leipzig Ballet, and High for the Vienna State Ballet. With Plasma und Penicillin at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, he made his directorial debut.

Alongside his choreographic work, Stiens collaborates in theatre, opera, and musical productions. Notable projects include The Seven Deadly Sins (2019), Dancer in the Dark (2012), Le Bourgeois gentilhomme (2024), Kiss Me, Kate (2025), as well as productions by Sibylle Berg and Gianina Cărbunariu and Alexandra Liedtke.
